Pretty Water
One thing I can say with certainty is that we don’t drink enough water. When you realize that our bodies are 70% water, it makes you consider your sipping habits, doesn’t it?
The average person should drink about 8 glasses of water a day. If you want to get technical, take your weight in pounds and divide by two: this is the number in ounces you should drink each day, not taking into consideration high heat or strenuous work or exercise.
My suggestion? Make water pretty. Really. I have a nice pitcher that actually came from my mother-in-law’s house, and I am sure it is quite old. It has a pretty handle and a nice pouring spout, even some little stripes around the outside. I slice up some lemons, limes, oranges, or any combination, add them to the pitcher and then fill it with fresh, clean water. Pop it in the fridge and you have a pretty drink just waiting for you when you open the door. You can often find pretty pitchers at flea markets and garage sales, or you can get a simple glass pitcher in Kohl’s or Walmart. Just make sure it is glass, not plastic!
And for those of you on the go, the stainless steel water bottle is a must have. They come in gorgeous prints and colors, and are perfect for that afternoon slump, walk with the dog, or tote-along to the yoga class.
Since I have started a juice/smoothie cleanse, I am trying to also drink more plain water. So today, out came the pitcher! Right now, it is filled with organic lemon slices. Tomorrow? Who knows?
