Good Morning from the Block

Good morning everyone! And a beautiful one it is. I sit hear in the drive of the Atlantic Inn on Block Island (because I am using the wireless Internet from the Inn next door!) as I watch a beautiful sunrise at 5:40am. I am a sucker for a beautiful sunrise, especially over water.

What is it about sunrises and sunsets that attract us so much? I know for me, a sunrise signifies the start of a fresh day– no matter what became of yesterday, right now I have a fresh start, a new beginning where anything and everything is possible. What will this new day bring? There will never be another today, so I aim to make the most of it. How about you? Do you start your day wondering about its possibilities? Or do you drag yourself through yet another day of the same old same old?

Today, wake up with a different perspective. Take yourself outside and look at the clouds, the color of the sky. If you are fortunate enough to be near water, notice any steam rising from it, any birds floating about, any ripples from fish…the point is, we need to change our perspective about the mornings and look at them as a possible source of something new and fresh. Set it as your intention, and you never know what will happen. Stretch for a moment and look up at the sky as you do it, and breathe in…..and blow out all the cobwebs from last night’s sleep. Breathe in newness and possibility—go ahead, do it! Give thanks for 5 things right off the top of your head–go ahead! Say them outloud!! And see what your day brings forth.

I am going for a long walk/run, probably ending up on the beach while it is still quiet and peaceful. I hope you have a wonderful day, and take a timeout to appreciate all that you are given.

Peace, Diane
