welcome to my blog!
well, it’s the first morning with my new site and my new blog. How exciting!! So much to think about and so much to say!
In the upcoming weeks, I will be posting on a variety of topics, not to be limited to food, cooking and eating, but also gardening, self-care, exercise—it’s about food, but it’s about so much more!
Last night, my husband and I went raspberry picking along Anderson Road here in Bethlehem Township. I have to say, it is not a bumper crop year, but the berries were tasty, none the less. We will be enjoying them in our breakfast cereal this morning. Berries are so good and good for you– I wish the season were longer, but if it were, I think they wouldn’t be as special as they are. Like asparagus, they peak during a short season, and then we must rely on the very substandard selection at the grocery store. So enjoy them while you can!
Berries are high in nutrition and phytochemicals that protect the body from disease, especially cancer and degenerative eye conditions. They are also high in fiber and vitamin C. Berries are versatile and go great in cereals, salads and sauces. This season, try a new variety, or just wander through the woods and see what presents itself for the picking. Freeze some for winter time use. I love having a freezer full of blueberries and strawberries to make wonderful smoothies, pancake sauces and muffins in the colder months.
I hope you make the time for yourself to be outside everyday while the weather is warm and the humidity is not so high. It is good for your skin and your immune system, and it is good for the soul! I hope to find myself sitting outside with some good reading material later today–so enjoy and take care!
